Welcome to the Art Gallery of Stephen Emms - I live in Thunder Bay, Northwestern Ontario, Canada. I am a watercolour/acrylic artist and photographer. My subject matter is really not limited, but reflects the beauty of the natural world we live in. I have worked my entire life in the outdoors as a Conservation Officer, often in remote locations, which has contributed to my understanding of the natural world. I love to spend my days out in the world capturing everything living or not in the natural world. Art and photography for me, is both relaxing and exhilarating and every picture is moment of wonder. I am fortunate to live where I do with access to Lake Superior and the wilderness of Northwestern Ontario. In my opinion Lake Superior with it's vastness, untouched beauty, history, weather and dangers make it one of the greatest places in the world. Thank you for spending your time viewing my artwork and please comment or like any of my work you particularly enjoy.

Commissioned artwork is a interpretation of the image artistically, it is not intended to be an “exact copy” of the image. That is what a photograph is for. The painting will be a reflection of my artist style, like the above painting done for a couple of a favorite spot. You will forever have a unique piece of art with a personal meaning for you and others to enjoy.
A couple walking in solitude on a remote beach, Lake Superior. Art that means something to you.
The painting will not be an exact duplication, it is an interpretation that will depict the scene and the subject in watercolour.
Auctioned painting for fundraising at the center.

This is a watercolor painting of a Aboriginal spearhead found in Quetico Provincial Park, Northwestern Ontario. The park commissioned a number of paintings for their interpretative program. These paintings are now on display throughout the park. Prints and cards are available on this website.
Prince of Wales public school was built in 1876 in Barrie Ontario Canada. It was closed in 2011 and the property sold in 2016. This small school had special meaning and memories to many. This painting was done for one of those people.
Warrior Hill, Lac La Croix. Quetico Provincial Park is a large granite rock hill rising over 300 meters from the shoreline of Lac la Croix. History says that Ojibwa used the hill for many purposes such as a lookout for enemies such as the Dakotas, and testing for young men. To test their worth Ojibwa warriors would run up to the top of the hill to retrieve an item and then back down, the first to dive into the lake would win the contest. This site was also used by the Ojibwa for vision quests. The left side are some canoeists that give persective of the size of this rock.
